    The books from the Kaldewey Press are important documents of contemporary bookmaking that have been featured in exhibitions all over the world. Since the 1985 founding of his handpress, which Gunnar A. Kaldewey set up in Poestenkill, in upstate New York, over sixty unique artist books have been produced in cooperation with artists such as Jonathan Lasker, Mischa Kuball, or Richard Tuttle. Among the authors are famous names such as Samuel Beckett, Paul Celan, Marguerite Duras, and James Joyce. Published in small limited editions, the books are produced according to the highest level of craftsmanship. Kaldewey does the typesetting and prints the books, sometimes making the paper himself, too. The bookbinding is done by renowned workshops such as Christian Zwang's in Hamburg, or Jean de Gonet's in Paris.

  • Future Fantasteek! brings together a trichotomy of investigation. art-zines and independent publishing. artist as social commentator and drawing as a means of immediate visual communication. The series explores obdurate boundaries between journalism and authorial illustration using satire to reflect notions of ‘Britishness’. The series can be read as a sequence, from just prior to the ‘credit crunch’ through to the ‘age of austerity’. The series is independently published as a limited edition art-zine, with two issues per year. The approach is experimental, incremental and reflective focussing on both the microcosm and macrocosm of living in the UK. Visual humour is developed throughout as a vehicle for change, combining techniques such as pastiché, parody and socratic irony. Typography and images are juxtaposed to create new narrative possibilities. Language is explored using different ‘voices’ such as anecdotal, colloquial or profane. This text is then translated into drawn commentaries on etiquette, politics and advertising. The ‘anxiety of the individual’ is a running theme throughout the series with many reoccurring protagonists and antagonists soliloquizing their notions of ‘Das Unheimliche’. The series also explores changing technologies with regard to notions of ‘the book’ with online versions of Future Fantasteek! available via a blog and online PDF reader (issuu and .swf).

  • BAU was founded in 2004 in Viareggio, on the coast of Tuscany, by a group of artists and individuals interested in the many-sided aspects of the culture of our times. Thanks to a widespread and constantly expanding network of contacts, every year the project takes the shape of an expressly designed UniA4 sized box: BAU container of contemporary culture. This non-profit box is produced in a limited edition of 150 copies (120 for issue 1 and 200 for issues 9-10) and contains original works, signed and numbered, from a large number of international contributors.
    The BAU container fits in the vast tradition of assembling publications and artists‘ magazines that developed since the early sixties. It intends to experiment with new languages, technologies and materials, operating in a peculiar dimension of group work that is open also to contributions from non-artists: outsiders, travellers, collectors of curiosities, creative gastronomers, anomalous scientists.

    A Stone's Throw ist eine Dokumentation über den Wandel in den ländlichen Gebieten Polens. Es ist die Geschichte einer Welt, die unbekannt bleibt und aus dem kollektiven Bewusstsein ausgeschlossen ist: die Welt der ehemaligen staatlichen landwirtschaftlichen Genossenschaften - die Propaganda-Visitenkarte der kommunistischen Ära. Völlig unproduktiv, wurden sie dennoch fast 50 Jahre lang als Triumph der sozialistischen Wirtschaft über ihr bürgerliches Gegenstück dargestellt, bis sie zu Symbolen des Systems wurden und 1990 zusammen mit ihm abgeschafft wurden. Für viele Betroffene wurde die Wende zur Tragödie, für die wenigen war sie eine Chance für eine positive Veränderung ihrer bisherigen Existenz.   • The International Society of Copier Artists (I.S.C.A) was a non-profit group founded by Louise Neaderland in 1981, intended to promote the work of copier artists and to advocate for the recognition of copier art as a legitimate form. The group is best known for producing The I.S.C.A Quarterly as well as for coordinating exhibitions of xerographic artwork, and the distribution of "The I.S.C.A Newsletter". Women made up the majority of society's membership.
    The I.S.C.A. Quarterly was published from 1982-2003. Typically, issues were produced in limited editions of 200 copies, with an average of 45 pages of original copier art supplied by I.S.C.A. members. Over the years the form of the Quarterly mutated from a collection of unbound pages to a spiral bound journal with an Annual Bookworks Edition composed of a box of books made by I.S.C.A. members. The work produced for the Quarterly ranged widely in focus from social and political issues to personal and emotional themes. The final issue (Volume 21, #4) was published in June 2003.
